FOCUS ON...JUAN WILLIAMS

On Wednesday, National Public Radio fired Juan Williams for the following comment he made while appearing on Bill O'Riley's Factor on FOX after O'Riley had asked him to comment on the idea that the U.S. is facing a dilemma with Muslims.

Williams responded: "Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

NPR says Williams was fired due to ethics guidelines. He contends it was for telling the truth. Sarah Palin has commented on her Facebook page that congress should "defund" NPR. Other conservatives agree.

I am a bit confused about the "defund" comment since it would seem that by doing so, conservatives would have one less voice standing up to their "do nothing" agenda and their "extremist" views. It would make you think that they are trying to "censor" or "extort" NPR by threatening to pull funds. It seems when regulation protects the GOP, it's just fine. When regulation looks out for heart and soul of America, its middle class and its poor, regulation is evil.

The solution is simple. It's time for both Republicans and Democrats to come back from vacation and do some real work to solve real problems in America. Enough of the distractions. As for Sarah Palin, who asked the President to comment on this situation, I would suggest appearances on Hardball, The Ed Show, Countdown or Rachel Maddow's show. I think they could give you an idea of what the President and much of America thinks about you and this non-issue.
