On the day after the election I posted a message that said that I would take some time to reflect on the results and make my comments. Well, this seems like the right time.
As for the historical nature of the election results, what could I possibly say that someone hasn't already said? From this day forward, any child born in America will not know us as a country that has only had white leaders. The results have opened the doors to anyone being elected.
During his period as President-Elect, Barack Obama handled himself in a very statesman-like way. He didn't interfere with the current administration, but he let his voice be heard, signalling a new beginning to Americans and all other nations.
In choosing his cabinet, who chose people of experience in order to get his administration off and running with focus. My only disappointment is that he did not find a place for Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska).
I was swept up in the emotion of inauguration day. As the Mr. Obama took the oath, I wondered what my brother would have thought. He probably would have had some off-color joke to describe the event, but I think he would have been happy that America had taken a giant step forward. I know he would have been happy that W. was gone.
During his first week as President he has stepped up to try to tackle the financial issues the Bush administration left. I believe he has taken some bold steps. Perhaps his finest moment has been to signal his disgust with leaders of the financial institutions, telling them they were acting irresponsible and that if they couldn't straighten out their own house, he would help them.
And so, my grade for the President thus far: A+
Keep up the great work, Mr. President
