LUCIANO AND FRED

I guess the news of the day has to be the death of Luciano Pavarotti and the announcement by actor turned Senator turned actor Fred Thompson that he will run for President, making him seem like the one hundredth person to do so for the 2008 election.

First Pavarotti - you have been missing in action for many years if you can claim that you never heard the man sing. Simply put, in one word: BEAUTIFUL. While primarily an opera singer, he was known to perform with pop artists as well (Sting comes immediately to mind). The Maestro died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Modena. The world of music will truly miss this great tenor.

Now for Fred Thompson - what this country clearly does not need is another superficial candidate for the highest office in the land. While quality Republican candidates are either not getting enough support (i.e., Ron Paul), or knowing that they would not get enough support (i.e. Chuck Hagel), choose not to enter the race, the populace seems to be mesmerized by a man whose only real claim to fame is as an actor. While Fred Thompson is not Ronald Reagan (thank God?), in my opinion he does not have the passion necessary to tackle the responsibilities of the Presidency and restore dignity to the office after 8 years of George W(hy the hell did we elect him twice) Bush.

Listen to music by Pavarotti and similar artists.
